Cell theory which was established by Schlieiden, Schwann, and Virchow postulated that all living organisms are made of cells and this are referred to as the smallest unit of life. It also continues that all cells originate from other pre-existing cells which also points to the continuity of life through the process of cell division.
The important characteristics of plant cells include a rigid cell wall, the presence of chloroplasts for performing photosynthesis, and the large central vacuole which is absent in animal cells. Animal cells also contain centrioles whereas plant cells lack them and animal cells contain many smaller vacuoles than a plant cell. These include nucleus, cytoplasm, and there are several organelles inclusive of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum.
The levels of organization in living organisms range from the simplest to the most complex: at the cellular level, tissue level, organ level, organism level and the organ system level. Cells and digits are organized into tissue, tissues form organs, organs cooperate to form systems, and systems create an organism.
Digestive process reduces the size of ingestised food and makes it available for the body to be used in energy production, cell generation and tissue healing among other uses. It entails the physical and chemical processes which starts from the mouth, and passes through the esophagus, stomach, intestines and excretes waste products. The primary organs involved are the stomach, intestines, liver and pancreases.
Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA is an hereditary molecule found in all the life forms and contains all the information required for the organism growth, maturation, and reproduction. It has a dual-chain helix structure with nucleotide sequences used to form blueprints for creating proteins; these proteins define the characteristics of an organism.
