Political Science is one of the subjects taught in class 12 in the JKBOSE curriculum, where the students are taught about the political systems, structures, and processes of India and the world. It includes the modern political philosophy, government, and politics of India, the concept of international relations, and major political events and affairs.
The syllabus is divided into two main parts: International Politics: From a contemporary perspective, it focuses on international relations, global issues, political events post-World War II, and Indian politics since independence, which focuses on the Constitution of India, political system in India, federal structure, and various political events that occurred in India after its independence.
Prominent course learning outcomes include: an appreciable grasp of concepts and theories in politics; the ability to analyse political systems and structures; enhanced critical thinking and analytical skills; a comprehensible understanding of political processes in India; and reasonable ideas on global politics and international relations.
These tests consist of multiple-choice questions, short and long questions and answers, course tests and quizzes, terminal examinations and assignments, as well as project-based assignments, focusing on particular aspects of political affairs or events. These assessments often measure the level of understanding and critical thinking ability of students.
Some of the suggested books are JKBOSE textbooks, reference books by political scientists Rajeev Bhargava and Suhas Palshikar, video programmes and digital content, political science magazines, and sample papers.
The course aims at developing functional skills like how to analyse political events and theories, how to interpret and analyse political data, evaluate arguments related to political issues, participate in informed debates and discussions, and how to understand political issues and governance in a complex manner.
