JKBOSE Class 8th Geography course aims at developing the students’ knowledge in geographical events, systems, and surroundings. This course is designed to develop an understanding of people and the earth’s physical features and activities, and to develop an awareness of the environment and being a global citizen.
JKBOSE starts with the understanding of physical geography which includes the nature of the Earth, its features, and the changes taking place on its surface. Students acquaint themselves with mountains, plateaus, plains, rivers and other land forms; and processes of weathering, erosion and deposition. Such knowledge assists learners in grasping the processes involved and the constant changing of the earth surface.
JKBOSE deals with the atmosphere and weather. Students learn about composition and structure of the atmosphere; the weather; and the climate zones. It is important to define these concepts in order to gain an understanding of how weather influences the daily lives of people and the climate in different parts of the world.
JKBOSE also puts much emphasis on natural resources. Students get to understand various physical resources, which include mineral, water, forests and soil as well as their locations and ways of conserving them. This section focuses on the impact of conserving the resources for the future generations and the involvement of people management of resources.
JKBOSE also covers human geography, which focuses on the impact of human beings as well as the impact of human beings on their environment. Some of the areas of discourse are population distribution, urbanization, agriculture, industries, and others. This assists students to draw relationships between human societies and their environments as well as their effects on the earth.
